Jar Cozy

MASON JAR COZY CROCHET PATTERN (WRITTEN IN US TERMS)

You will need:
  • 100% cotton yarn (I used Bernat Handicrafter)
    A size I (5.50mm) crochet hook
A mason jar (pattern is written for a 20 oz jar I recycled from pasta sauce)
Little Light - Mason Jar Cozy
To begin – chain 4 and slip stitch to first stitch to form a circle.
Row 1 – chain 1 (does not count as a stitch here or throughout pattern), do 6 single crochet (sc) into circle, join to first sc.
Row 2 – chain 1, do 2 sc into same stitch and each stitch around, join to first sc = 12sc
Row 3 – chain 1, do *2 sc into same stitch, 1 sc into next stitch, repeat from * until you have 18sc. Join to first sc.
Row 4 – chain 1, do *2 sc into same stitch, 1 sc into next 2 stitches, repeat from * until you have 24sc. Join to first sc.
Row 5 – chain 1, do *2 sc into same stitch, 1 sc into next 3 stitches, repeat from * until you have 30sc. Join to first sc.
Row 6 – chain 1, do 1 sc into same stitch and 1 sc into back loop only of each stitch around. Join to first sc. This will create a lip for the bottom of the jar.
Row 7 – chain 1, do 2 sc into same stitch, skip 1 stitch, do 2 sc in the next. Join to first sc.
Row 8 to 25 – repeat row 7. Be sure to count your stitches on each row so you only have 30 each round.
Row 26 – after joining last row, do 1 sc in same stitch and 1 sc in each stitch around, join to first sc. Tie off and weave in ends.
Once finished, I recommend blocking the cozy by sliding it over the jar (it will be snug) and spritz with a light mist of water and let dry. To resize for different jars – for the first few rounds, stop increasing when the circle is the size of the round markings on the bottom of the jar. Then you can start on the “lip row” and continue on with the pattern for the length you want the cozy. To wash, throw in with your regular towel load (no fabric softener) and block it on a jar to dry overnight.
